Non c'è ancora nulla di ufficiale riguardo al prossimo progetto di Baz Luhrmann, ma quel che è certo è che il regista sta lavorando a un nuovo adattamento del romanzo di F. Scott Fitzgerald Il grande Gatsby.
Come già si diceva in precedenza, Luhrman ha in mente i nomi di Leonardo DiCaprio e Tobey Maguire per i ruoli maschili principali, tanto che i due attori hanno recentemente provato alcune parti della sceneggiatura con il regista. Insieme a loro c'era anche l'attrice Rebecca Hall, recentemente protagonista di The Town, a cui è stata provvisoriamente affidata la parte di Daisy Buchanan.
Nonostante queste prove, il ruolo di Daisy è tutt'altro che scritturato. Luhrman sta infatti ampliando la ricerca a varie attrici, attualmente in fase di valutazione. Rebecca Hall è una di questa, ma nella lista compaiono anche Keira knightley, Amanda Seyfried, Blake Lively, Abbie Cornish, Michelle Williams, Scarlett Johannson e Natalie Portman. Il regista vorrebbe convocarle nelle prossime due settimane per una lettura dello script insieme a DiCaprio, ma è evidente che per molte di esse sarà difficile recarsi a New York per una semplice prova.
Sarà interessante vedere quale fra queste giovani attrici riuscirà a ottenere la parte. Nel film originale, diretto da Jack Clayton nel 1974, il ruolo di Daisy era di una giovane Mia Farrow, mentre Robert Redford e Sam Waterson interpretavano i protagonisti maschili.

Il regista di Moulin Rouge vorrebbe DiCaprio nel ruolo del protagonista, ma sarebbe incerto sull'attrice alla quale affidare l'interpretazione di Daisy. Tra le star in vantaggio per il ruolo, Scarlett Johansson, Rebecca Hall e Natalie Portman.
Tanta incertezza e soprattutto voci non confermate, per quanto riguarda il cast di The Great Gatsby che il regista Baz Luhrmann starebbe cercando di assemblare in queste settimane. I media americani riportano le ultime indiscrezioni del magazine Deadline, secondo il quale l'autore di Moulin Rouge avrebbe sottoposto Leonardo DiCaprio e Tobey Maguire ad alcuni reading del copione, rispettivamente per i ruoli di Jay Gatsby e Nick Carraway. Allo stesso reading, per il ruolo di Daisy Buchanan, avrebbe partecipato anche Rebecca Hall, vista recentemente in The Town, ma sembra che Luhrmann sia intenzionato a contattare altre attrici, soprattutto per valutarne l'alchimia interpretativa con DiCaprio.
L'ostacolo principale, per molte attrici attualmente impegnate con altri progetti all'estero, è che Luhrmann preferisce lavorare sul copione sin dagli inizi, quindi l'eventuale partecipazione a The Great Gatsby comporterebbe la loro reperibilità a New York. In ogni caso, nella lista delle attrici alle quali Luhrmann sarebbe interessato, figurano Natalie Portman, Keira Knightley, Amanda Seyfried, Blake Lively, Abbie Cornish, Michelle Williams e Scarlett Johansson. Tra queste, in pole position vi sarebbe proprio la Portman, che recentemente è apparsa in Cigno nero - Black Swan e ha rinunciato ad un ruolo in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.
Restiamo in attesa di conferme ufficiali e notizie più dettagliate sul casting, che non tarderanno ad arrivare. Nel frattempo DiCaprio ha accettato di interpretare anche il ruolo di uno dei protagonisti in The Devil in the White City, prodotto dalla sua Appian Way.

If he can also convince them to pose for a calendar, he will have finished the transition into '80s college movie protagonist.
Meanwhile, Cameron Crowe is working on getting someone to star opposite Matt Damon in We Bought a Zoo, his film about some people who bought a zoo. According to Deadline, he too wants Scarlett Johansson, but is also considering Amy Adams, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Rachel McAdams for the part. Tough decisions abound. Perhaps if all of Luhrmann's and Crowe's candidates kissed..

la Portman piacerebbe tanto anche a me... comunque tra tutte io preferirei queste due.. solo che, ripeto, devo prima farmi un'idea del personaggio.. altrimenti per scelta personale direi solo ed esclusivamente Natalie Portman...

DiCaprio has been cast as Jay Gatsby in the movie adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's literary masterpiece and insiders have suggested Lively is close to signing on as love interest Daisy Buchanan.
Reports suggest Scarlett Johansson and Michelle Williams have also been considered for the role.

An insider insisted the meal was strictly business.
Blake and Leo were said to be joined by director Baz Luhrmann and his crew for the meal, sparking further speculation that she is "being strongly considered" for the role of Daisy Buchanan in "The Great Gatsby". "It was an 8 person dinner," the insider dished before adding the director's "whole crew was there".
Prior to the dinner, the former girlfriend of Penn Badgley has been rumored included in the list of Baz's potential candidate to portray Jay Gatsby's love interest. Deadline reported that she was up against Amanda Seyfried, Scarlett Johansson, Natalie Portman, Keira Knightley and Michelle Williams for the part.
