Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo Join Forces For Clean Energy Campaign Actors Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo have teamed up — and no, it’s not for a new movie.
The movie stars are launching “100%,” a campaign aimed at making not only clean energy from renewable sources, but making it affordable for everyone (not just movie stars).
The “Shutter Island” co-stars were on hand for the campaign’s debut at the Solutions Project garden party in New York City on June 18. The party was, of course, powered by solar-energy, which included a solar-powered pizza truck provided food and a solar powered cell phone charging station.
“This is a grassroots people’s movement but the ambition of this movement is absolutely revolutionary. Clean energy grows local economies,” DiCaprio told the crowd.
Ruffalo echoed the sentiment. “This is really mankind’s greatest threat, and it should take some serious problem solving on all of our parts,” he said. “And we don’t really have to give up anything to do it. …. We will be collecting the sun and the wind that falls on us every single day.”
Ruffalo also couldn’t help but compare the East Coast with the West Coast when it comes to environmental initiatives.
“I just came in from Los Angeles, where I was doing some press and they think they’ve got something on us concerning renewable energy … they’ve got nothing on us. We are coming for you Governor (Jerry) Brown.”
The two Oscar-nominated actors share a deep love and passion for the environment. Recently, DiCaprio donated environmental artwork as well as announced plans for an eco-friendly resort. Ruffalo has been equally vocal for his dedication to combating climate change, having urged businesses to go 100 percent renewable last fall.
As much as we would love to see Leo don some superhero tights along with Mark, we think this new powerhouse partnership is way better than a Marvel movie.
