 |  Lee vive nell'Ohio, è stata lasciata dal marito. Suo figlio Hank, che è in conflitto con la madre perché la ritiene colpevole della partenza del padre, ha problemi psichici, dà fuoco alla casa e viene rinchiuso in manicomio. Un giorno Lee riceve una telefonata dalla Florida. La sorella Bessie, che non sente da più di vent'anni, la chiama allarmata, le è stata diagnosticata la leucemia e la sua sopravvivenza dipende dal trapianto con un midollo osseo compatibile. Bessie non si è mai sposata, per dedicarsi al padre Marvin, che ora è morente nel letto di casa, e all'eccentrica zia Ruth. Per le due sorelle l'incontro dopo tanto tempo diventa occasione di confronto e di scoperta reciproca. Il confronto è aspro e difficile, fatto di accuse. La scoperta avviene tramite Hank che, dapprima freddo e scostante, entra poi in sintonia con la zia e si confida con lei. A poco a poco tra le due sorelle si stabilisce un clima di migliore disponibilità all'ascolto reciproco. E sarà proprio questo nuovo atteggiamento mentale e interiore a creare le premesse per poter fare fronte alle difficoltà che propone la malattia e la scomparsa delle persone care. (x)
 Lee lives in Ohio, after she was left by her husband. His son Hank, who is in conflict with his mother because he considers her guilty of his father's departure, has mental problems, has also set fire to the house and is locked up in an asylum.
