    CITAZIONE
After New York City announced that it’s suing five major oil companies, Hollywood’s No. 1 climate change warrior tweeted his approval.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio helped announce Wednesday that the city has a goal to divest money from fossil fuel reserve owners within five years and, in tandem, is suing five major oil companies—BP, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, ExxonMobil, and Royal Dutch Shell—for the billions of dollars the mayor said it will take the city to recover from climate change-related problems, per the Web site for the mayor’s office. And de Blasio already has Hollywood backup in this climate change fight from none other than big-name climate warrior Leonardo DiCaprio.

In a tweet on Wednesday, DiCaprio expressed his support for New York as the first major city to “divest billions from big oil.” Though the actor has lent his support, via the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, to any number of environmental causes, including marine life, oceans, and wildlife, he’s set his sights on the oil companies before. In 2016, while speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, DiCaprio spoke about the devastation of climate change and what “corporate greed” does to contribute to those environmental issues.

“We simply cannot afford to allow the corporate greed of the coal, oil, and gas industries to determine the future of humanity. Those entities with a financial interest in preserving this destructive system have denied and even covered up the evidence of our changing climate. Enough is enough. You know better. The world knows better. History will place the blame for this devastation squarely at their feet.”

This decision from de Blasio is, arguably, bad news for big oil companies. But it’s great news for anyone who cares about stopping big oil, namely Leonardo DiCaprio, who even doubles up Titanic cast reunions with major galas for environmental change. Keep fighting, old sport.
